What is an FBI Approved Channeler?

  • July 9, 2018
  • Learning

As you may know, SureID is one of only a handful of FBI Channelers in the country (and we’re pretty proud of it). Neat, huh?

Wait, you don’t know what an FBI Channeler is?

Well, you’re not alone.  It’s not exactly a common term, but it’s an important one, and we’d like to explain why.

We’ll link you to the FBI’s official information about Channelers, but let us break it down for you. Most of the time, if someone (or some entity) wants to request an FBI criminal history record for non-criminal justice purposes, they work directly with the FBI. However, over a million people a year ask for their records, and contractors can help with that lift.

So, a small group of experts, including us, have been approved to (1) take fingerprints for the FBI to process, (2) receive criminal history information from the FBI, and (3) properly share that information according to laws, rules, and regulations set by the FBI. Each of those contractors is called an FBI Channeler – basically, a conduit between you and the FBI.

What makes us different than the other Channelers, then? Simply put, SureID focuses on providing the information, support, and service you need to help navigate through what’s likely an unfamiliar, even daunting, process. We have dedicated staff right here in house that knows the fingerprinting process, and every day they walk people through their options, provide updates, and even help people as they get their fingerprints taken. That’s unparalleled service in this industry, so you can see why we’re proud of the work we do.

One other thing differentiates us: our fingerprinting stations utilize top-of-the-line technology and are located all around the country. You’ll find our stations in in city centers and suburbs alike, ready for use at your convenience. No appointments and no hassle!

Keep in mind that the rules, regulations, and laws that govern the Channeling process are provided to us by the FBI. We work diligently to ensure that we provide the best experience for our customers while complying with them all. In fact, we have our very own in-house expert to keep us up-to-date on everything we need to be doing and to make sure we’re doing it right.

So there you have it – the SureID FBI Channeler in a rather-big nutshell. We’re proud of the work we’ve done to earn that trusted role, and we look forward to earning your trust, too.
